SAN file system - In enterprise storage, a SAN file system is a file system which has been optimized to be shared by multiple clustered servers over a storage area network. SAN file systems are like network attached storage (NAS) protocols (like SMB and NFS) in that they allow multiple computers to access the same file system (and even file) at the same time. Single instance storage - When several files in a computer filesystem contain exactly the same data, single instance storage can replace the references to these identical files by references to a single stored copy of the file. This can potentially save large amounts of disk space in systems with many copies of the same file.
