Information and Information Flow: An Introduction

Information and Information Flow: An Introduction
semantic information, and information flow. Syntactic information theory is concerned with the information contained in the very fact that some signals have a non-random structure. Semantic information theory is concerned with the meaning or information content of messages. The theory of information flow is concerned with deriving some piece of information from another. The theory takes us to situation semantics as a foundation of modern approaches in information theory. This work offers a brief overview of the background theory and explains the concepts of information, information architecture, and information flow from such a perspective.

Information Tasks: Toward a User-Centered Approach to Information Systems by Bryce Allen,
Information Tasks: Toward a User-Centered Approach to Information Systems by Bryce Allen,
The user-centered approach is central to the creation of usable information systems, services, and institutions. Information system design should derive from user research into information needs, tasks accomplished in meeting those needs, and resources used in the tasks. Information Tasks summarizes user research, then presents design sketches of systems that illustrate how design is linked to research. Also discussed are usable information services and an overview of the organization and economics of information institutions. This comprehensive user-centered approach provides an agenda for information research, design, and education that challenges many accepted beliefs and suggests new directions for information work. Information Tasks will be of interest to library and information science students and faculty interested in information storage and retrieval, user studies, and systems analysis design. Students and scholars of human factors in systems design, human-computer interaction, and cognitive engineering will also find the text useful.

Informal logic - Informal logic is the study of arguments as presented in ordinary language, as contrasted with the presentations of arguments in an artificial (technical) or formal language (see formal logic). The focus of informal logic lies in distinguishing good arguments (valid, cogent) from bad arguments or fallacies (invalid, uncogent).

Overview (debate) - An overview in policy debate is part of a speech which is flagged as not responding to the line-by-line arguments on the flow. A overview may be "global" if presented at the beginning of a speech or "local" if presented at the begining of a position.

Informal value transfer system - An informal value transfer system (IVTS) refers to any system, mechanism, or network of people that receives money for the purpose of making the funds or an equivalent value payable to a third party in another geographic location, whether or not in the same form. Informal value transfers generally take place outside of the conventional banking system through non-bank financial institutions or other business entities whose primary business activity may not be the transmission of money.

Informal social control - Informal social control is exercised by a society without explicitly stating these rules. This implied social control usually has more control over individual minds because they become ingrained in their personality.

Web and Information Technology - Web and Information Technology Semantic Web Technologies Championed by the 3W Consortium, the Semantic Web is a highly significant initiative affecting the future of the World Wide Web. Currently, web-based information comprises primarily documents written in HTML (HyperText Markup Language). Today`s web, however, offers only very limited ways of describing the content itself. The Semantic Web addresses this shortcoming, using the descriptive technologies RDF (Resource Description Framework) web and information technology and OWL (Web Ontology Language), web and information ...
